Weekly Devotional – Exodus 3 God’s Promises
Reading for the week of December 6th
It has been a couple of weeks. I was so busy with the holiday I honestly forgot about posting. Please forgive me.
If you would like to discuss this portion of Exodus 3 further, head over to the Facebook event page and start up a discussion by posting to the page. You can also post answers to the questions I ask at the end of this post on the event page as well.
And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites – a land flowing with milk and honey
-Exodus 3:17 (NIV), emphasis added
God keeps His promises. He promised Abraham that He would give Abraham’s descendants the land he was sleeping on. By the end of Genesis, Abraham’s descendants are in Egypt not the land promised. Many generations later, the Israelites are being mistreated, they are suffering, they are in misery as God said in Exodus 3:17.
Have you been there? God made you a promise, He told you what He wanted you to do or where He wanted you to go and days, weeks, months, or even years later the promise is unfulfilled and you are miserable or given up hope that what He promised with ever happen? I’ve been there many times. I’ve been the one to think that what He promised, I imagined. I’ve been the one to think I misheard God or God was punishing me for a wrong turn I took.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.
-Hebrews 10:23 (NIV), emphasis added
If God made a promise to you then He will be faithful and fulfill that promise, but in His time, when He knows it’s best. We need to be faithful and wait on His timing not rush and attempt to force His hand. But if you’ve already jumped when He said to wait, don’t fret. I’ve been there done that too. I am the most impatient person when it comes to God’s promises. I want what He wants for my life NOW and it seems I can’t wait on Him and His timing. I have jumped when He told me to wait. I won’t lie, being outside of God’s will was agony for me, but I prayed, asked Him for forgiveness for not trusting in Him and to bring me back to His path. It wasn’t right away, but eventually He did get me back on track. If you’ve jumped, you can pray too and ask God to bring you back.
What has God promised you? Are you waiting faithfully waiting on Him or have you jumped when you shouldn’t have? What can you be doing to prepare for His plan in your life? Do you know what He has promised you? Look in the bible and see if you can find the promises from our heavenly Father.
Head over to the Facebook event page to answer these question or to leave your thoughts on the reading. You can also leave your answers and thoughts in the comments below.
